Celebrating Italian Wines, California Style

Wine lovers the world over know of the various wines that come from the vineyards in Italy, and many know of the delicious wines that come out of the famed Napa Valley in California. But not all wine enthusiasts know of the blending of the two, what many call Cal-Ital Wines. About 30 years ago, vintners in California began to plant Italian grape seeds in their vineyards to make their own versions of Italian wine. Many of these vintners had Italian roots and wanted to bring the flavors of Italy to the shores of the US.

Established in the midst of this winemaking revolution, Altamura Vineyards started in 1985 by husband and wife team Karen and Frank Altamura. It is the only winery in Wooden Valley in Napa and focuses on taking a “hands-on approach” to cultivating the harvest and making the wines. With approximately 12 soil types covering 65 acres of hillside and valley floor vineyards, Altamura is the perfect location for growing Italian grapes and winemaking.

Be sure to join us at The Ryland Inn on Thursday, September 25th for an Italian style wine dinner featuring wines from Altamura Vineyards selected by the sommelier, Adam, paired with a five course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Craig. Click here to get a sneak peek of the menu!
