While we might not always love turning another year older, celebrating a birthday is an important way to recognize another milestone in life and welcome another year. So why plan something special for someone close to you whose birthday is around the corner? At Liberty House, Stone House, The Ryland Inn and Celebrate at Snug Harbor, our event specialists (or memorymakers, as we like to call them) are experts in party planning and have a few tricks up their sleeve to help you flawlessly plan an adult birthday party. Read on and get some of their best advice so that your event goes off without a hitch!

Planning a Birthday Checklist
One of the most common mistakes that most people forget when planning a birthday is to create a checklist and jot down all of the activities that need to be completed before the day arrives. Divide your list into two sections: Planning a few months before the party and planning that needs to be done 3 weeks before the party. When you first begin planning a birthday, you should definitely include choosing the date, picking a venue, making the guest list/sending out invitations and crafting a budget. Once these items are completed, you can spend the remainder of your time on the second half of the list.

Pinning Down the Details
With just a few weeks left to planning a birthday, you should focus on determining the menu. Think about if you would like the party to be cocktail style, or more formal as a sit-down dinner. You should also consider your decorations and what kind of entertainment you’re looking for. Last but not least, think about what types of favors you’d like to send off with your guests!

Looking for a Surprise?
A simple way to add a little excitement to an adult birthday party is to make it a surprise! If the guest of honor has a sense of humor and wouldn’t mind a bit of a shock, surprise parties are a ton of fun to plan. Throw the person off by telling them you’re taking them out for a small birthday dinner. They’ll never see a big surprise coming that way!
